Room 205a, Campus on Viale Romania 32

Speaker: Marco Manacorda, QMWC London

Title: The Politics and Economics of Government Aid (with T Colussi, G Lecce and M Onorato)

Abstract: “We study one of the major government financed territorial investment programs in Europe, the Italian Cassa per il Mezzogiorno, which spanned over 40 years after the end of WWII. Using micro data on the universe of interventions and a variety of alternative identification strategies, we assess the role of the policy on local development in both the short and long run. The results show that the effect of the intervention were positive but short lived.”
