Abstract: Savage's theory of decision shows the equivalence of two structures. One is the behavioral-observable preferences over acts, the other is the mental-nunobservable structure of probability and utility. The latter is not only unobservable but also cannot be reported by the decision maker. We propose an alternative mental-unobservable structure of desirability preferences which can replace the pair probability-utility and can be consciously reported. Joint work with D. Schmeidler.
